Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Colorado psilocybin law, our consultation process, safety, and delivery.
Colorado Law & Legality
Understanding your rights under Proposition 122.
Personal possession and use of psilocybin mushrooms is decriminalized in Colorado for adults 21 and older under Proposition 122 (2022). State law enforcement is prohibited from arresting or prosecuting adults for personal possession. However, psilocybin remains a Schedule I substance under federal law, and unlicensed commercial sale is not permitted under state law. Non-commercial gifting between adults is explicitly protected. ShroomCo operates within this framework — our consultation service is separate from any gifted products.
ShroomCo is not a dispensary. We are a wellness consultation service. Colorado does not currently have psilocybin dispensaries — the only licensed commercial framework is DORA-regulated Healing Centers for therapeutic facilitation. ShroomCo operates in the non-commercial gifting space permitted under Prop 122, where a paid consultation is followed by a curated wellness gift. This is a fundamentally different model from cannabis dispensaries, and we take our responsibility to operate transparently and within the law very seriously.
Prop 122 decriminalizes personal use broadly — it does not restrict use to therapeutic contexts only. Adults 21+ may use psilocybin for any personal purpose in private settings. That said, intentional and informed use — even for recreational purposes — is associated with significantly better outcomes. Setting an intention, preparing your environment, and having a sitter dramatically improves any experience regardless of your reason for using.
Standard urine drug tests (5-panel) do not typically screen for psilocybin. However, extended panels can detect it. Psilocybin metabolises relatively quickly — typically within 24 hours for most standard tests — but this varies by individual metabolism, dose, and test sensitivity. Colorado's state-level decriminalization does not affect federal employment drug testing, military testing, or any employer who requires compliance with federal drug-free workplace policies. If drug testing is a concern in your life, consult your employer's policy before using.
Yes. ShroomCo's services are available to Colorado residents only. Prop 122 decriminalization applies within Colorado state borders. We do not ship or deliver outside of Colorado, and our consultation process is specifically designed for Colorado adults. If you are visiting Colorado, the same laws apply to you while you are physically present in the state, but we do not deliver to hotels or temporary residences.
The Consultation Process
How our assessment works and what to expect.
Our consultation is a multi-step wellness assessment that helps us understand your experience level, health background, intentions, and set and setting. It ensures we can provide appropriate guidance and match you with the right product. The consultation fee is what you pay for — the gifted product accompanies it as part of the package. This structure complies with Colorado's non-commercial gifting framework under Prop 122.
No prescription is required for personal use under Prop 122. ShroomCo's consultation process is a wellness assessment, not a medical consultation. We do ask about medications and health conditions to ensure we can guide you safely — certain medications (particularly SSRIs, MAOIs, and lithium) can interact with psilocybin in significant ways and we flag this in your results.
The consultation assessment typically takes 10–15 minutes to complete. It walks you through several sections covering your background, intentions, and preparedness. After completing it, you'll receive a personalised results summary and product recommendations immediately. Your consultation record is saved to your account for future orders.
No. Once you've completed the consultation and created an account, your record is saved. Future orders will not require you to redo the full assessment. If significant time passes or your circumstances change (new medications, health changes, etc.), we encourage you to update your consultation record.
Yes. Your consultation data is stored securely and is never shared with third parties, law enforcement, or any government agency. We do not sell or monetise your data. See our Privacy Policy for full details. Our legal counsel has confirmed our data practices comply with Colorado and federal privacy law.
Safety & Responsible Use
How to have a safe and intentional experience.
First — stay calm. The vast majority of difficult experiences are emotional, not medical emergencies. Change the setting (move rooms, go outside), change the music to something calming, hold the person's hand, and remind them the experience is temporary. Do not leave them alone. The Fireside Project's Psychedelic Support Line (62-FIRESIDE / 623-473-7433) provides free, confidential support during difficult experiences. Call 911 only if there is a genuine physical emergency — seizure, loss of consciousness, or self-harm risk.
Yes. Psilocybin is not appropriate for everyone. We strongly advise against use if you have a personal or family history of psychosis, schizophrenia, or bipolar I disorder, as psychedelics can precipitate or worsen these conditions. Use with extreme caution if you take SSRIs, MAOIs, lithium, or stimulants. Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals should not use psilocybin. Our consultation assessment screens for these factors and will flag concerns in your results.
"Set" refers to your mindset going in — your emotional state, expectations, and intentions. "Setting" refers to your physical and social environment. Both profoundly influence the quality and nature of the experience. Research consistently shows that safe, supportive environments and positive intentions lead to better outcomes. We provide a detailed set and setting guide with every consultation.
No. Do not drive or operate machinery during or within 12–24 hours of a psilocybin experience. Even after the acute effects have passed, some residual effects on perception and reaction time can persist. Plan ahead — arrange a sober driver or stay where you are.
Dosing & Products
Understanding potency, amounts, and what we offer.
Dosing is highly individual and depends on your body weight, metabolism, previous experience, the specific strain, and your intentions. Our consultation assessment factors in your experience level and desired intensity to provide personalised guidance. As a general rule: always start lower than you think you need. A 1–1.5g experience for a first-timer in a safe setting is far more valuable than an overwhelming 3.5g experience. You can always go deeper next time.
Our gifts are available in 1/8 oz (3.5g), 1/4 oz (7g), 1/2 oz (14g), and 1 oz (28g) sizes. For first-timers we recommend 3.5g, which provides multiple low-to-moderate dose experiences. More experienced users may prefer larger quantities for convenience. The consultation fee scales with the gift size to reflect the increased depth of guidance provided.
We curate our offerings regularly based on quality and availability. Our shop page always reflects current offerings with full strain descriptions, potency notes, and recommended experience levels. If you have specific strain questions, reach out through our contact page.
Store in an airtight container away from light, heat, and moisture. A sealed mason jar in a dark cupboard is ideal. Properly stored dried psilocybin mushrooms remain potent for 12–18 months. Avoid the refrigerator unless the product is completely dry, as condensation can cause premature degradation.
Delivery & Logistics
How we get your gift to you safely and discreetly.
No. ShroomCo does not use postal carriers or courier services that operate under federal jurisdiction (USPS, FedEx, UPS, DHL). All gifted products are delivered locally via private courier within our service area (Greater Denver and Colorado Springs). Interstate transport of psilocybin is a federal crime regardless of the laws in both states involved, and we do not participate in it under any circumstances.
We currently serve Greater Denver (including Lakewood, Aurora, Englewood, Littleton, Thornton, Westminster, and Broomfield) and the Colorado Springs / Pueblo corridor. If you're unsure whether your address is within our service area, place an order and we'll confirm during the scheduling call. We are expanding our service area — check back regularly.
After your order is placed and your consultation reviewed, our courier will contact you within 24–48 hours to schedule delivery. Same-day delivery may be available depending on volume. We do not leave packages unattended — ID verification is required at the door, so someone must be present.
Our courier will verify your identity and age with a valid Colorado ID (driver's license, state ID, or passport). We photograph the ID for our records as part of our compliance documentation. This is non-negotiable — we cannot complete delivery without ID verification. The whole interaction takes under two minutes.
All deliveries are made in plain, discreet packaging with no external branding, logos, or identifying information. Our courier arrives in a personal vehicle. From the outside, there is nothing to indicate the nature of the delivery.
Account & Orders
Managing your account, orders, and consultation records.
You'll complete a consultation before checking out, and creating an account ensures your consultation record is saved for future orders. Account creation is fast — just an email and password.
Log in and visit My Account → Orders. All past orders, their status, and details are listed there. You can also access your consultation record from your account dashboard.
Contact us as soon as possible if you need to cancel or make changes. Once a courier has been dispatched, we cannot cancel. Modifications to delivery address or timing can usually be accommodated with advance notice.
You can request account deletion by contacting us. We will delete your personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Note that we are required to retain certain transaction records for legal and compliance purposes — these are kept in anonymised form where possible.
